Bill Long, The Real Sundance Kid

Was rancher William Henry Long really the
Sundance Kid? Long's bones were dug up in
the Duchesne, Utah City Cemetery in 2007.
The investigation began in 2007. Old family stories tied Long to the outlaw gang known as "The Wild Bunch." The leaders, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, supposedly died in a shootout in South America in 1908, but evidence proves William Henry Long "AKA" The Sundance Kid lived to a ripe old age and died in Utah in 1936. This is the actual picture that was passed around at a family reunion in Fremont, Utah in 2005 when the Great Grandson of Bill Long one Jerry Nickle took one look at it and heard these words... Who am I? It was as if his dead great grandfather was whispering directly to him from the grave. This set Jerry's heart on fire and the quest began.  Check out the Face book page Outlaw Stories of The Wild West for updates and info on the Discoveries.

If you would like to support our endeavor check out our Kickstarter Project.
For more information a book is about to be released and you can get it at Outlaw Stories of the Wild West. A Documentary on the whole project is being created by Mike Karr of Scene by Scene Productions and the Horses and riders were all supplied by Extreme Outlaw Rides here in Utah.

  1. I live in Duchesne Utah and have studied the Wild Bunch off and on for years. There is some anecdotal evidence that Bill Long was in fact the Sundance Kid as well as certain forensic evidence from his exhumation. To bad DNA was not recoverable. Some of the now deceased old timers of Duchesne told stories about Bill Long and many believed he was the infamous outlaw.
